Ailsa Craig, roughly translates to 'Fairy Rock' in Gaelic. It is a small granite island in the outer Firth of Clyde and is a home for huge numbers of gannets and an increasing number of puffins. The island sits 16km west of mainland Scotland and is made up of a rare microgranite which has has long been quarried to make curling stones. The island is roughly
